Reading a young friends story over the passed few days I realize the absolute pain and torture this young man went through because his father was brutal with his criticism. How often do we suffer from our parents lack of approval? So many young men seem to fall victim to their father's lack of approval. Which causes even more confusion, self esteem issues, fear, anti-social behavior and more. Observing a young mother with her little guy and not allowing him to express sadness and it is not my place but I thought "no, you are going to make him suppress his emotions" and that can lead to trouble. When emotions are suppressed then saying things like, I love you even to a wife or child is also suppressed. Fear of showing emotions or being afraid to express ones true feelings is not good.
I am not condoning an emotional basket case, just a healthy sense of self, healthy sense of what is acceptable when expressing emotions. I have said for years, real men cry. I'll stick by that statement.
